Henry Hamilton (Harry) Harvey
Born:
10/07/1882
Harry moved in with
Leo
and Stella at Happy Valley and stayed there until his death in 1962.He took to cycling in the 1930's in a serious way. After a decade of cycling he had logged (on paper) 115000 km on two successive bicycles throughout southern and central Africa, as far as northern Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Belgian Congo. Some of his logbooks and stories are still in the family. The story was told of him making a trip to East London and on visiting a farm near Stutterheim, he purchased some newborn piglets, took them all the way home to Bloemfontein and then went back to East London. Harry, together with three of his brothers, eventually became almost totally deaf. He died of a stroke in 1961. His portion of Mimosa Glen he named Tipperary and he sold it to a Mr Frank Guard in the 1950's.
