Hubert Hugh Harvey
Born:
1883 |
Died:
2010
Hubert married Viola Grimes and they had 5 children, namely Leonard, Clarens, Hazel, Basil and Noel. Basil died in his teens from what was thought to be peritonitis. Shortly after Noel's birth Hubert and Viola separated. Hubert sold his portion of Mimosa Glen, namely Clearwater, to Mr Kenneth Beck. After buying and selling two other farms, he eventually moved to the then Rhodesia to be with his eldest son, Leonard, who had moved there to work as an extension officer for the Department of Agriculture. Leonard was then requested by the Prime Minister of Rhodesia to head up the breeding of an indigenous cattle breed which he did with great success. The breed became known as the Tuli cattle. Leonard was awarded the MBE by Queen Elizabeth for his services. Leonard married Beryl Mason and they had four children, namely, Donald, Myrna, "Tuppie' and Brian. Donald moved to East London in 1980 and established a very successful business. Tuppie emigrated to Australia and Brian stayed with his father to run the family ranch and the breeding core of the Tuli cattle. He died in 2010. Donald died in 2011. Not much is known to the writer about the eventual fates of the rest of Hubert's children or their offspring.
